Large Ducommun Girod 2 per turn keywind music box

€9,800.00

Very large music box by Ducommun Girod.

Made in Switzerland in 1857 by the well know and early makers.

The keywind mechanism plays 8 tunes as indicated on the original tunesheet in a 2 per turn setting. 2 tunes in 1 revolutions of the cylinder gives this mechanism an extremly fine teethed comb, comparable to overture combs. The mechanisme is attached to the case with 2 screws to the front and back.

The case has simulated rosewood to front, back, left and right side. The hinged endflap to the left reveals the winding hole and 3 control levers. There is marquetry of the highest quality to the lid of the case.

The tunes are clasical and are rare, with tune nr 2 “Sehnsücht nach Belgien” (“longing for belgium”) never seen on another music box.

Notice the rather large original tunesheet, signature on the bedplate, and serial number to the mechanism and the bottom of the case.

A very rare and musically highly important music box
